Here are 3 things you need to look for while finding a family photographer.

1. Do you like the photographer’s style?

Make sure you take the time to look through the photographer’s portfolio. Do you love the images you see? Do they create the sense of connection that you are looking for when you are documenting your family? Photographers create wildly different looks and it’s important to make sure you love the images they have selected for their portfolios because they should photograph your family in a similar way.

2. Is the photographer’s editing consistent?

Photographers take years to develop their editing style. Some photographer’s like a dark and moody edit. Others prefer a light and airy style. My style is clean and vibrant and my images have a timeless look. Do you want your images to follow current trends? Will you still love those images when the trends inevitably change. When you browse a photographer’s website or social media accounts their images should have a consistency to them. That way you’ll know what to expect when you receive your gallery.

2. Do the subjects look comfortable?

I studied and practiced for a long time before I could easily direct families into poses that captured connection. Offering prompts and suggesting quick games encourages reactions that show the beautiful connections that family members have with each other. Those techniques also make families forget they are being photographed so that they can be genuine with each other. I hope that rings true in my portfolio. As you search for a Pensacola photographer study their portfolio images to know what you’ll be receiving in your gallery.

*Bonus Tip for Finding a Family Photographer Pensacola

Make sure the photographer’s personality is a good fit with your family. You can learn from a portfolio the types of things your photographer may ask your family to do. If you look through my images you can see that I’m probably going to ask you dance. I love it when families line up and give me a wiggle dance, when a mom and dad walk down the beach hand in hand and pull each other in for an embrace or when grandparents slow dance during the sunset. If you love the images in a portfolio you have to trust the photographer’s prompts during a session to get those types of images for your family too.
