Extended family sessions have become one of my favorite sessions to photograph. There is just something about the whole gang piling into a condo for a week and spending time watching the sunrises and sunsets, searching for shells, and splashing in the waves that makes me happy. I know it takes a lot of effort to make everyone’s schedules line up for that type of gathering. I am always so grateful when a family chooses me to document this time for them.
Often during these types of gatherings, there are baby announcements or surprise proposals. I even got to be a part of a gender reveal on the beach this summer. It’s so fun to watch families interact and show love for each other. I’ve photographed several surprise proposals now and I have a detailed plan to give the family so that we make sure we capture the moment. One family this summer even brought in the bride-to-be’s family so they could watch from a distance too. There were lots of tears after the bride-to-be realized her parents where there too! I often see moments during my family sessions that make me tear up.
